FROM OUR RESEARCH

Two humidifiers say "quiet." Only one gives the number.

Shopper asks: “humidifier for dry winter air large room quiet”

This listing says

runs quietly enough to leave on overnight

The listing beside it says

21dB Quiet

Same search, same shelf. One listing gives a number, the other an adjective. Start with the questions customers already email you: how loud, how warm, will it fit.

Both listings sat in the same top 10 for that question. A shopper asked for quiet. One listing answers with a measurement an agent can compare; the other answers with a feeling it can only repeat.

How we checked

We give Shopify's agent catalog a shopper's question in plain words, read the results it returns exactly as received, and check whether each listing states the fact the question asks for. We quote listings verbatim and withhold store names.

This is one dated snapshot (2026-10-26). We can't see inside any assistant, and each one adds its own sources and ranking. We don't publish how often a pattern occurs until we've measured it.
